Another topic brought up during RinVote on Euronews Albania was the phenomenon of violence in the family and problems of gender families. The young activist sought more information and concrete plans that political parties have to fight these occurrences, as they brought recent cases of domestic violence to the spotlight.

The candidate of the Democratic Party, Jorida Tabaku, said that “unfortunately” the prime minister himself is an example of public verbal violence.

“Verbal violence as an example coming from the prime minister and conveyed to the society. The participation of women in politics has not brought any changes”, she said.

Tabaku emphasized the factors behind domestic families, blaming mainly economic reasons. According to her, in order to prevent this phenomenon, concrete mechanisms for the protection of the victims need to be established.

“The flat tax encourages employment, raising the minimum wage, giving more space to small enterprises, measures to improve the economic situation. We need concrete funds to help women and establish defensive mechanisms for women”, she said.

Meanwhile, Milva Ekonomi from the Socialist Party asserted that the issue is not only tied to economic problems but also social.

“It is not a result of economic factors only, but social too. Great importance is also carried by the media and the promotion of positive roles. We have social programs for sheltering women victims of violence and they have the center of the attention, these do not only occur with central and local governance”, Ekonomi said.
