Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on the Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti to review a decision that saw the relocation of the state’s embassy to Jerusalem.

“I know that you are also concerned in regards to the case over the Embassy of Kosovo that was opened in Jerusalem. I think that it would be necessary for your government to review the matter within the framework of the respective UN resolution and international rights”, wrote Erdogan in the letter addressed to Kurti as he congratulated him for the new post.

The relocation of Kosovo’s embassy was one of the points of the agreement brokered by the White House in September between Kosovo and Serbia.

Accordingly, Israel agreed to recognize the independence of Kosovo in exchange for the latter’s embassy in Jerusalem and not Tel Aviv.

The majority of Western states do not regard Jerusalem as the capital of Israel due to the long-running dispute with Palestine, which also claims the city as the capital of its future state.
