The Regulatory Commission of the Elections postponed its decision over the model of the ballot papers, where the Albanian electorate will choose among political subjects and candidates.
The State Election Commissioner, Ilirjan Celibashi, presented to the Commission three models, two that included the names of the candidates and another one with numbers.
However, following a 2-hour deliberation between the members of the Commission, their different stances prevailed over the competencies of the decision-making and not the proposed models.
During the discussions, Celibashi argued that given that the number of candidates is different for every district – meanwhile several districts also have independent candidates – the decision over ballot papers “should be special for every district”.
The draft suggested by Celibashi did not have a concrete proposal over which of the models could be more appropriate. In fact, on the 23 of March, CEC posted four models on social media asking for the citizen’s opinion, where 75% and 79% of citizens preferred the model that included the names of the candidates.
Following the debate that involved also other members of the Commission, Celibashi said that he would return with a concrete proposal.
