Renowned world actor Leonardo DiCaprio took it to Twitter to express once again his support in declaring Vjosa a National Park, the river dubbed as “Europe’s last living wild river”.
Last week, activists across Europe asked the Albanian Govt and the EU to support #VjosaNationalParkNow.
The EU has now pledged its support. Please share this video and ask @ediramaal @lulzimbasha_al @BlendiKlosi @ilirmetazyrtar to help save the #BlueHeartofEurope. pic.twitter.com/EYpcDDKVjv

Albanian President Ilir Meta and the leader of the Democratic Party Lulzim Basha were quick to share DiCaprio’s post on their social media accounts.
President Meta thanked the actor and environmentalist by stating “we will always protect Vjosa”.
We❤Vjosa and forever we will protect it! Thanks & gratitude @LeoDiCaprio for your inspiring solidarity! We are determined, until April 25, not to allow by democratic means any arbitrary decision for the construction of hydropower plants on the Vjosa River. #VjosaNationalParkNow https://t.co/pj4lLgoNHy

DiCaprio’s post comes amid several protests that took place at once in European capitals urging the government and the European Commission to give the river the “National Park” status.
Euronews Albania’s show “In a Few Words” aired on Monday dedicated particular importance to the matter by showing a complete summary of all the proposed hydropower plant projects and whether the country will in fact benefit in any sort from their construction.
