North Macedonia has recorded its first case of a patient suffering from a blood clot after getting the AstraZeneca shot. The patient is a 28-year-old woman and had gotten the vaccine a week ago in Serbia.
“Until now there is one case recorded a 28-year-old girl that had a thrombosis after she got the first AstraZeneca dose in Serbia. She started showing symptoms about a week after receiving the shot and is currently being treated in hospital”, declared North Macedonia’s health minister Venko Filipce.
Health authorities have suspended the administration of the AstraZeneca jab on people below the age of 60, following the footsteps of countries such as Canada and Germany.
“We’ve decided to be very careful therefore we’ll wait for the final confirmation over the vaccine’s safety. I will meet with the Agency for the Security of Medicines to exchange information and address our inquiries to EMA and Germany’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs”, added the health minister.
The country received its first batch of 24.000 AstraZeneca jabs from COVAX which will serve to inoculate citizens above the age of 77.
Euronews Albania interviewed several citizens who said that the process is going well and they do not fear severe side effects.
“I feel very good. I didn’t have any bad reaction or anything like that. I’m 79 years old. Everything has been organized as it should, what’s left now is that we protect ourselves. If I have any reaction I was told to get some regular medicines for fever and nothing else. After 3 months I’ll get the second dose”, said a citizen we spoke to.
“I feel very good, for the moment at least I’m fine. They asked me whether I’ve been sick recently and gave me some guidelines on how to protect myself in the following days”, said another citizen.
Another citizen we interviewed said that doctors told him to be more careful and keep wearing a mask.
“I’m very well. I was told that I have to take care of myself. I shouldn’t drink alcohol, wear a mask and not go out a lot”, explained another one.
Rollout on citizens above the age of 77 is taking place across the country, while authorities are expecting the delivery of another batch by Russian and Chinese producers in the upcoming weeks, which will serve to speed up the process and continue with the immunization of other priority groups.
