All inbound and outbound flights from Tirana International Airport (TIA) have been canceled until tomorrow (April 8) at 10 AM, announced the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on its website.
Therefore, there will be neither any departures nor landings at TIA as airport controllers from the company Albcontrol have entered into a strike.
68 air traffic controllers walked out over working conditions and pay cuts.
Just recently, they met with the Albanian Minister of Infrastructure Belinda Balluku demanding a full return of their salaries.
Euronews Albania journalist Merin Maçi reported that there was mounting tension during the meeting while the two sides did not reach an agreement.
Earlier during the day, airport authorities announced that two flights had been canceled due to the strike.
Minister of Infrastructure Belinda Balluku confirmed that all flights have been suspended.
The two flights affected by the walkout were respectively an inbound Athens-Tirana flight from Aegean Airlines and an outbound to Istanbul which had a 40 minutes delay.
