The leader of the Agrarian Environmental Party, Agron Duka, said that as an ally of the DP, he stands by the idea that the opposition must come forward as a united group when entering negotiations for the new Albanian President with the ruling majority.
According to him, the row between Berisha and Alibeaj is putting in danger the future of the Democratic Party and the opposition.
“This is not about an individual, or Berisha and Alibeaj. This is about the opposition. They are putting in danger the future of the opposition”, Duka said.
He added that in case the DP fails to find common ground over this dispute, it will be extremely challenging to reach a consensus in the upcoming local elections.
“Personally, I think that if the two sides fail to agree, we will remain out of this process”, he said.
From a moral perspective, the ruling majority should not elect the president by itself, although it does have the necessary votes to do so, Duka said, arguing that several Socialist parliamentary mandates are disputable.
