Medical authorities confirmed on Tuesday the presence of two new Omicron strains in Albania.
After testing 556 samples, the Institute of Public Health (ISHP) detected the strains BA1 and BA2.
According to the data provided by the Institute:
- 86%(476) BA1 sample
- 8.3%(46) BA2 sample
- 3% (18) Delta sample

The distribution of BA2 cases is higher in the community compared to hospital cases.
ISHP believes that this variant will be dominant as it is highly contagious.
The Delta strain is also present, but on a very low percentage, authorities noted.
The Public Health Institute called on citizens to get vaccinated in order to avoid another wave of infections.
