Albania recorded 2,029 new coronavirus cases and two deaths on Thursday, authorities confirmed in their daily briefing.

Authorities estimate around 17,783 active cases across the country, of which 130 are hospitalized.

Although the country is experiencing record-high figures, the technical committee of experts deemed it unnecessary to recommend new restrictive measures.

The chair of the committee, Mira Rakacolli, said that the current measures in force are fair considering the epidemiological situation in the country.

Albania has a night curfew starting from 11 PM to 6 AM, a mask-wearing mandate in public spaces, as well as a ban on gatherings of more than 50 people.

The Ministry of Health appealed to citizens to get the vaccine in order to avoid rising hospital admissions.

The official COVID-19 death toll in Albania is 3,255.
