Albania rolls out COVID-19 vaccine booster shots

Citizens older than sixty are now officially eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine booster dose, as recommended by authorities.

Also, starting from Monday the vaccine age will be lowered from 18 to 16, while minors older than twelve that have a diagnosed health condition may also receive the jab following parental authorization.

So far, 35% of the population has been injected with both vaccine doses.

Research from the New England Journal of Medicine in Israel pointed to the efficacy of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in preventing infection among teens, after analyzing over 94,354 vaccinated youngsters from the age of 12-18, and then comparing it with the same sample, including size and age, but unvaccinated individuals to retrieve the results.

According to the health ministry, Albania is set to receive another batch of 500,000 Pfizer doses by the end of this year costing around $6 million USD.

‘Over 90% of teaching staff have been vaccinated’

Around 90% of education staff is now fully vaccinated declared health minister Ogerta Manastirliu during a hearing at the parliamentary committee on Labour, Social Affairs, and Health on Monday.

“From March 13 we rolled out the inoculation of education staff. 28,512 teachers have been vaccinated until today,” said the health minister.

Albania has administered a total of 1,909,861 COVID-19 vaccines, with 891,707 citizens fully jabbed.
