Prime Minister Edi Rama revealed on Wednesday plans with Montenegro and North Macedonia, to build a block of houses for the families of Irpin, a city 26 km west of Kyiv.

His declaration came as a response to journalists’ questions during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelenski and Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic.

“Today, we had the opportunity to see Irpin from near, and I am truly happy that you agreed with our proposal to gather our efforts and build a block from each of our countries, for the families and children of Irpin”, Rama said.

“I know that the European Union and many others are already part of this effort, but let us do it in a Balkans way, without many bureaucracies”, Rama added.

Among other things, Rama added that Albania supports Ukraine’s bid in getting the candidate status from the EU, although the country has its own reservations when it comes to the integration process.

“We express the full support of your idea and request that the EU grants Ukraine the candidate status. Of course”.

“Of course, we are not happy with the EU, and this is not a secret, but in the meantime, we are fully committed to the EU path, not because of Paris, London, or Berlin, but for the future of our next generations”, said PM Rama.
