An Albanian citizen, wanted internationally for alleged links to arms trafficking, was arrested at a well-known hotel in the Rosario Islands, about 40 kilometers from Cartagena, in a joint operation by the Colombian National Navy and Colombian Migration authorities.
According to the Navy, the individual had a red notice from Interpol, making him a high-priority target for international authorities. His capture came after hotel staff alerted authorities about the presence of a suspicious guest.
Colombian Migration cross-checked the suspect’s passport data with international databases, discovering the red alert and enabling his identification. The individual, who was vacationing in the Rosario Islands, was known for his connections to organized crime.
A specialized team dispatched from Cartagena carried out the operation, and as the suspect attempted to leave the area, he was immediately apprehended by authorities. After confirming his identity and verifying his passport, the arrested individual was transferred to the Colombian Migration offices in Cartagena, where the necessary legal actions were taken.
The Colombian National Navy praised the operation as an excellent example of coordination and precision, emphasizing the continued efforts of Colombian authorities to combat international organized crime.
They also highlighted that such operations reinforce Colombia’s commitment to ensuring security in the maritime, coastal, and island areas of the Caribbean, a region that attracts thousands of tourists each year.
Following the arrest, the Albanian national was placed in custody while legal procedures for his extradition are underway. Colombian institutions are coordinating with Interpol and the authorities of the country that issued the red notice to ensure the process is conducted in accordance with international protocols.
