The Honorary Consul of Albania in Ukraine, Shahin Omarov, says that the country has not been able to find any peace since Russia annexed Crimea.

In an interview for Euronews Albania, the senior diplomat maintained that Kyiv was forced to sign the Minsk agreement, contrary to its national interest.

“The negative aspect of the Minsk agreement for Ukraine was the fact that after it was signed, Ukraine was obliged to formally recognize the leaders of separatist regions and amend the administration of the state”, Omarov said.

According to the consul, the main clause in the pact was to deescalate military tensions near the border.

He also referred to the recognition of the two eastern regions, Donetsk and Luhansk, as a plan dating back 8 years ago.

“The situation in these two regions is tense. There are some activities against the Ukrainian side most likely supported by the Russian Federation. The Ukrainian side is trying to avoid falling prey to these provocations”.

Albania’s Honorary Consul to Ukraine says that what happened on Monday evening ‘was a clear message to the international community’.
