Albania recorded 1,236 new cases on Wednesday, more than 400 from the previous day.

Four citizens succumbed to the virus, taking the official death toll to 5,694.

Currently, authorities report that 107 patients are being treated at the hospital with active cases estimated at 7,952.

Recoveries topped 202,000 in the country of some 2.8 million inhabitants.

The health ministry appealed on citizens to get vaccinated in order to avoid severe forms of the virus.

In Albania, every citizen older than 16 is eligible for the COVID-19 shot.
