Kosovo’s prime minister Albin Kurti has declared that Kosovo wants to normalize its relations with Serbia but it won’t allow for the formation of an ethnically based association like Belgrade is demanding.
In an interview for the Voice of America, he said that he wishes for the dialogue to end in reciprocal recognition.
“We won’t take any steps back, but Serbia has fallen behind because it doesn’t accept the crimes that have been committed against Kosovo and it also refused to recognize Kosovo. Biden has said that there should be a complete normalization of relations, which should be centered around reciprocal recognition. I am willing to move forward with reciprocal recognition, but Serbia isn’t. We want to have a dialogue to reach an agreement, not a dialogue for the sake of having a dialogue. We need to have normal relations with Serbia, but for this to happen Serbia needs to change. Kosovo is fine on its part,” – said Kurti.
“Now it’s time for the Western Balkans to get integrated into the EU, but we find it an issue for Serbia to side alongside Russia, because Serbia is turning itself into a Belorussia of the Balkans,” – added Kosovo’s Prime Minster.
