US Ambassador Yuri Kim declared that there will be more public designations of Albanian politicians.
“We have several means at the disposal of the Government of the United States – designations from the State Department, designations from the Treasury Department, among others. So, let’s see. It is a strictly confidential process and I do not have any information that I can share with you at the moment”, declared Ambassador Kim.
Asked about potential future relations with Berisha, in case he is elected as DP’s chair again, the ambassador said that the United States does not engage with anyone that has been designated by the Secretary of State.
“This is worldwide police and it has nothing to do with individuals”, the ambassador said, while adding that “Washington only recognizes Lulzim Basha as the legitimate leader of the Democratic Party”.
According to Kim, the main problem in Albania remains corruption, as also pointed in “all reports made by the State Department”.
The Ambassador commended the progress made by SPAK for seizing over “€80 million in assets” in the course of two years, drawing a comparison to data from 2011 to 2019 where €20 million were seized.
