The American-Albanian businessman and philanthropist, Michael Granoff declared during his interview for ‘NOW’ that his relationship with Albanian politicians has been generally healthy, but he would in no way allow it to have an influence in his businesses.

“Since the very start, when we came here, we understood that first and foremost it would be important to stay on top of politics, and not meddle with politics,” – he said.

The head of the board of the Albanian-American Fund and the Albanian-American Development Foundation emphasized that collaborating with the government is unescapable, seeing that Albania is a small country that makes relations with the government unavoidable when it comes to decision-making.

“Lastly, if you think about the very goal of democracy, and keep in mind that democracy is a journey, not a destination, we have to try to create a government from the people, for the people. This is the language we use in our Constitution. This is what we should strive for. Our governments should all try to do this. To be able to serve the people,” – said Granoff.

The businessman also spoke about his projects, explaining that his endeavors are always focused on what’s best for citizens and whoever governs the country isn’t relevant, for as long as the result is beneficial.

When asked by the host, Erla Mehilli about the future of his institution and how long he thinks he will be staying here in Albania, Granoff said that his goal is to continue the work in our country.

“Essentially, one of the reasons why our foundation is so interesting is being eternal,” – he added.

The businesses and projects undertaken by Michael Granoff are focused on the development of the country’s economy and the private sector.
