Amnesty International condemns patronage system: Violation of human rights

Amnesty International released its 2021-2022 report on the State of the World’s Human Rights.

In its report, the organization condemned the publication of personal data from the registers of the Socialist Party and of the Taxation Directorate.

The information leaked after the publication of the patronage system constitutes a violation of human rights, the organization noted.

In December, another 2 databases came out in the public and started being shared massively across communication platforms, such as WhatsApp.

The two lists contained the salaries, workplaces, and also what types of cars were some 600,000 taxpayers driving.

No one was ever punished over the patronage system data leak meanwhile, four employees from the tax directorate were arrested but then handed a lenient sentence, for leaking the lists that contained the salaries of over 600,000 citizens.
