“Euphoria and content over increased debt is a black hole and a heavy burden to the pockets of the Albanian people”.

These were the words used by former finance minister Arben Malaj in an interview for Euronews Albania when asked about the €82.6 million loaned to OSSHE, the energy distributor company, by the Albanian government.

“We’re the only country of the world where finance ministers celebrate when they take a loan, not only in present days. Crises have shown that an increased debt among individuals, households, and the state, is a growth that yields crises. The most conservative people, in terms of borrowing and the responsibility that come with taking a loan, should actually be finance ministers”, said Malaj as he took aim at
PM Edi Rama’s remarks on economic development.

The former finance minister also warned of the high risks posed by cryptocurrencies.
