Former Socialist MP Alqi Bllako was interrogated by SPAK prosecutors this Thursday.

Bllako declared that his father worked at the Tirana waste incinerator plant, and has no connection to Klodian Zoto.

He dismissed any conflict of interest as the contract for the incinerator was not signed during the time that he was serving as general secretary at the Ministry of Environment.

Responding to allegations that he modified the designation of the territory where the Fier incinerator was built, he declared that the examination was carried out by a special commission.

“In regards to altering the land designation, there was a commission that approved it. Then I passed on the paperwork to the Council of Ministers, who takes the final decision”, he said.

Former MP Bllako was arrested following a SPAK order on April 1. Before that, he renounced his seat in parliament, and with that parliamentary immunity.

SPAK accuses Bllako of abuse of office and corruption for the Fier incinerator affair.

Investigation revealed that while Bllako was serving as the general secretary of the Environment Ministry, and then director of the National Agency for Water Supply and Sewerage, he favored the concessionary firm ‘Integrated Technology Waste Treatment Fier’ and pocketed some 14,964,900 Albanian Lek.

SPAK presented new evidence near the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime. Accordingly, Bllako traveled with Klodian Zoto to Italy in April 2019 and returned together to Albania.

SPAK believes that this piece of evidence raises even more doubts about his involvement in the incinerator affair.
