At least 370 citizens in Kruja have been poisoned. Early signs point to a possible contamination of the city’s drinking water.
The majority of affected citizens headed to the hospital, after which they received treatment and signed themselves out shortly after, but there have also been cases of more complicated symptoms that were immediately hospitalized and are now being kept under close watch.
President, Ilir Meta has reacted to the unfortunate incident, asking for a thorough investigation and more accountability from responsible institutions.
In addition, he expressed his concerns, calling this an “alarming situation”.
“I urge all epidemiological healthcare services and legal medicals to uncover details and find the cause, culprits and all those responsible for this grave incident that poses a serious threat to the lives of citizens and our National Security,” – wrote Meta.
During the day, seniors, men, women and children were admitted to hospital and received treatment for symptoms that ranged mainly from stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting and high fever.
