The average salary at our universities is €980 euros. This salary level has remained unchanged since 2004, leaving us in the last place in the region in terms of teacher salary.
Salaries of professors in faculties vary from 90,000 ALL to 140,000 ALL at the managerial level. So, the average monthly salary of teachers in universities is 115 thousand ALL, or €980 euros.
In relation to countries in the region, even in this sector, salaries are the lowest in terms of value. They are followed in increasing order by Bosnia, North Macedonia, and Serbia.
In the European Union, they range from €5,000 to €9,000 euros per month, while in Australia and Switzerland they hold the record with salaries reaching up to €16,000 euros per month.
The last revaluation of professors’ salaries in Albania was done in 2004 and 13 years later a slight indexation was carried out.
Unions demand, through protests and pressure for a boycott, that wages increase by 30% at this time and 50% in the next 2 years. However, the government, in the first response it gave, came out with the decision to only increase it by 7%.
