Bajram Begaj is the new Albanian President after a parliamentary vote on Saturday.

83 MPs attended the plenum determining the new head of state.

77 MPs voted in favor, 5 against and 1 abstained.

74 MPs voted from the ruling Socialist majority, 8 from the opposition and 3 from the Social Democratic Party.

Just shortly after the parliament convened, the leader of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha contested the election process and boycotted the session by walking out of the Assembly.
