Bardh Spahia secured the majority of the votes in the primaries held in Shkodra on Sunday.
However, the Democratic Party declared on Sunday that it won’t recognize the winners.
Spahia considered the statement ‘a hideous accusation’.
On Now with Erla Mehilli, Spahia said running for the DP comes naturally to him, as he walks in a path crossed before by his predecessors.
His father, Ali Spahia, was one of the founders of the Albanian Democratic Party.
“My brothers, sisters, and I grew up with the achievements and challenges (of the Democratic Party) since in the first years it was founded”, Spahia recalled.
Asked about the fact that he won’t be running under DP’s banner, but in a coalition with the Socialist Movement for Integration, he said “it’s only a technicality”.
Spahia maintained that Democrats will not get confused in the process as “Albanian Democrats, but especially the ones of Shkodra, know how to identify who’s the authentic Democratic Party and its representatives”.
