The Kosovo Police announced that the barricades in the north of Kosovo have been removed and that the two checkpoints in Jarinje and Bernjak are now open for traffic.
Through an official announcement, the police said that after the removal of the barricades, the two border points were opened for traffic this Friday afternoon.
Among other things, it was emphasized that police officers in the north of the country and those working at these two border crossing points will continue to perform their duties and legal authorizations in the interest public wellbeing and constitutional order.
“In the north of the country, the barricades have been removed and the two border points of Jarinje and Bernjak are freed for traffic. Prishtina, on December 30, 2022. The Kosovo Police (KP), based on constitutional and legal authorizations, has continuously made assessments on the state of security in the north of the country, which had worsened since 10.12.2022 when barricades were placed on the road, as a result of which the two border crossing points of Jarinje and Bernjak were closed. Illegal blocking of roads, attacks against security institutions, media and citizens, had the effect of worsening the situation and making life difficult for citizens of that area who could not engage in free movement and did not have easy access to vital and necessary services. Despite the circumstances created as a result, the Kosovo Police was engaged in all forms to help meet the demands and needs of citizens without distinctions, as well as to maintain order and public safety.
Based on the information gathered so far, the barricades have been removed and after that the opening of the two border crossing points Jarinje and Bernjak was fully assessed, and today (30.12.2022) in the afternoon they were reopened for traffic.
Police officers in the north of the country and at these two border crossing points, will continue with the realization of their duties and legal authorizations in the interest of the general public and their constitutional orders. The right to free movement, the prevention of criminal acts and the provision of security are serve and benefit all citizens, and as a result, the Kosovo Police will continue to cooperate closely with local and international institutions”, read the announcement of the Kosovo Police.
