Any act that could lead the Democratic Party to become isolated from the United States will not be accepted nor permitted by the party’s leader Lulzim Basha.
In his words, isolation from the US implies the “death of the Democratic Party”.
“Consequently, it would be the death of the Albanian people’s hope for the rotation of political power and normalization of democracy in the country”, said Basha during a Monday meeting of DP’s parliamentary group.
He also elaborated on the reasons behind Sali Berisha’s ousting from the group.
“I expelled him and will continue to expel from my agenda time and energy investments on public shows of the “he-said-she-said” sort, which contribute to nothing more than changing the nature of political confrontations in today’s Albania of one thousand problems and issues that simple citizens have: instead of a confrontation of the opposition against the government, they’ve turned it into a back and forth tale between the former historic leader Sali Berisha and the re-elected leader four months ago according to the principle one member one vote that am I”, he said.
Basha also reiterated that he will not allow voting to take place on the ousting of Berisha from the group.
He underlined that Berisha is trying to “connect his public designation with the destiny of the Democratic Party”.
“His plan, if we were to talk about a plan, is turning the Democratic Party into an anti-American bunder solely for his interest”, claimed DP’s leader.
In addition, Basha said that damaging the DP would be PM Edi Rama’s ultimate “pleasure” and “gift”.
Some weeks ago, the US Embassy commended Basha’s decision to expel Sali Berisha from DP’s parliamentary group as “courageous” and as a move that “deserved respect”.
