During a press conference this Monday, DP Chair Lulzim Basha said that the energy crisis that is being served by the prime minister is in fact a corruption crisis that will directly affect the pockets of regular citizens.
According to Basha, the corruption crisis begun this summer, with the decision to outpour the Drin cascade and sell hydric energy at a third of the price it was bought for.
This crisis, which is being “sold” to citizens as an energy crisis, will be followed by a drastic rise in prices, argued Basha.
“We aren’t dealing with an energy crisis, but a corruption crisis that began with the decision to drain the Drin cascade last summer, followed by selling energy belonging to Albanian citizens for a third of the price it is being bought for.
In order to pay for it, they’ll need to take out debt, which will too come out of the pockets of Albanian citizens. Meanwhile, as we wait for our judicial institutions to perform their duties, we can’t just stay put and keep our arms crossed,” – said the DP leader.
Basha ended his statement by saying that the Democratic Party will do everything – from the fight within Parliament to urging and supporting different forms of resistance and reaction amongst citizens – to help get them out of the current crisis.
