The elected, but unsworn, mayor of Himarë, Fredi Beleri, commented from prison about the interview of Prime Minister Edi Rama for Kathimerini newspaper.
Through a post on Facebook, Beleri writes that the last 4 outings of Prime Minister Rama regarding his arrest are indicators that he began to understand the consequences that may have from the Greek side regarding the integration processes of Albania in the EU.
Beleri writes that he hopes that Prime Minister Rama has fallen prey to misinformation about him and in the near future will make a “mea-culpa” for the arrest.
“Prime Minister Edi Rama’s self-solicited interview for KATHIMERINI, his fourth public appearance on my case in the last 12 days, when meanwhile he kept a silent for 90 consecutive days since my arrest, leads me to three main conclusions:
First, he began to understand, after Athens forced him to be absent from the big picture of the leaders of the Western Balkans, the consequences of his actions in the accession process but also the international position of Albania in general. It’s never too late.
Second, he decided to show remorse for the defamatory and abusive public attack on me before the election, but doing so artificially and carefully to separate my persecution from his attack and to show that he is a self-censoring leader. I hope that in the near future he will find the political stature to make a mea culpa, but mean it and prove it in practice.
Third, he continues to distort reality and lie. I hope that he has fallen victim to misinformation and realizes it early, before the consequences for Albania, the Municipality of Himarë and me personally become irreversible.
I asked the editors of KATHIMERINI to accept an article of mine on the occasion of the interview of Edi Rama next Sunday, September 3. Tomorrow the important thing is Mr. Rama”, writes Beleri.
