Sali Berisha has just declared that his DP faction will be entering a coalition with SMI in the upcoming by-elections set to take place on March 6. This DP-SMI coalition has been dubbed ‘The Home of Freedom’.
The former PM didn’t exclude the possibility of adding additional smaller parties to this coalition, confirming his earlier calls for a ‘grand opposition front’ to go up against the ruling party and the official Democratic Party – run by Lulzim Basha – in these local by-elections.
“Rama has confiscated DP and the DP logo and his main goal was to stop us from running in these elections. We will be participating in these elections because any form of boycott will not an option for us. We will enter a coalition and SMI is part of that coalition. We are currently negotiating with other parties as well,” – said Berisha.
In addition, he confirmed that his candidates will be running under a different party banner.
