Former PM Sali Berisha has arrived at the headquarters of the Democratic Party where he was greeted by a crowd of supporters.
They gathered outside the DP after the referendum held on Saturday to remove current leader Lulzim Basha.
“I am most humble in front of 44,000 voters that decided today to remove Basha from leading the political force. This is the most well-deserved punishment for a person who’s unworthy of that duty”, Berisha said.
“This is the most extraordinary voting in the history of democratic revolutions. You can see that this revolution is unstoppable. There is no force in the world that can stop this revolution”, declared Berisha.
Berisha called for a nationwide rally to be held on Monday in sign of protest against the visit of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, while referring to Open Balkan as “a dangerous project”.
“This alliance is national threat to all Albanians”, he said.
106 voting centers were set up across the country for Democrats to vote on the referendum organized by Berisha to discharge Basha.
Democrat MP Albana Vokshi declared that over 44,000 Democrats voted “yes” to discharge the current leader of the Democratic Party.
Today, the Democratic Party convened the National Assembly where it adopted a resolution banning all members declared persona non-grata from executive functions, including members that have collaborated with communist regime in the past.
“There is no referendum. These are just some members whom I call on joining the decisions taken from our institutions”, declared Basha earlier during the day.
