Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha spoke on Saturday about his designation as persona non grata by the US Department of State.

In his word from the podium of the National Assembly, Berisha claimed the sanctions came from the ‘corrupt lobbying of George Soros and PM Edi Rama’, while adding that he cannot ‘accept slander and lies as truths’.

“I have been sanctioned by the US State Department on charges for which there are absolutely no facts, evidence, or documents. I have been sanctioned by the corrupt lobbying of George Soros and Edi Rama. Whoever can present even a piece of evidence against Sali Berisha, I will be ready to take any action against myself. I am Sali Berisha, I never accept slander or lies,” he said.

Berisha emphasized that external interferences led to a rift within the Democratic Party, but added that he sees this Assembly as the beginning of a new chapter to confront the government led by Edi Rama.
