Former PM Sali Berisha has reacted after to Lulzim Basha calling today’s meeting of DP’s National Council, during which he is supposed to fire the ‘disobedient’ – who switched sides in order to join Berisha.

Berisha declared that “the time that the MP Lulzim Basha made bargains with the fate of the Democratic Party is over”.

“The days when the Party served as a collateral for the leader’s debts are over,” added Berisha, referring to the unanimous decision of yesterdays’ DP Congress, to officially ax Basha as party leader.

Berisha also noted that yesterday’s ballot was ‘a true spectacle of democracy similar to American standards.

“Yesterday’s Congress reaffirmed DP’s Euro-Atlantic values by returning back to its deserved pedestal, the free vote, in the first-ever Congress in Albanian history, called for by the party’s membership,” – said the former prime minister.

According to Berisha, Basha’s decisions are null and void and that DP’s leadership is in the hands of the Commission of Reestablishment, which has been mandated by the Albanian Parliament, as the highest governing body of the Democratic Party.

In conclusion, Berisha called for unification, adding that through his latest actions, Basha is trying to ‘oust the party’s majority’.
