During a meeting with supporters at PD’s Branch No. 2 in Tirana, the opposition leader Sali Berisha presented the measures that will be taken to support citizens and businesses in case he comes to power after the elections of May 11.

According to Berisha, emergency measures will be introduced to improve the economic conditions of vulnerable groups and to cope with inflation, as well as investments will be made in domestic production.

“We will establish a minimum living wage of 200 euros. Absolutely, within the first three months of our governance,” said Berisha.

The former prime minister also promised the creation of a “Consumer Card” to ease the burden on citizens, while guaranteeing an immediate increase in pensions for retirees.

“Pensions will be indexed by double. Initially, they will increase by 20%. A pensioner cannot buy medicine at the same price as we do with high salaries. No!” said Berisha.

Another measure he proposed was the reimbursement of VAT for pensioners up to 450 euros per year. He also said that efforts would be made to support families and children.
Regarding business, Berisha promised fiscal relief to support economic development and the creation of new jobs.

“We will free businesses from the heavy fiscal burden, because we believe that money in business accounts is more valuable than in government accounts. They will have the opportunity to invest and create jobs,” he said.

Berisha also promised that work would be done to boost domestic production in every part of Albania, with the aim of turning natural resources into wealth for citizens.

“We will do everything so that Albania produces everywhere, in every corner of the country, so that the goods are transformed into wealth for the citizens. An Albania that produces is an Albania that enjoys and prospers its citizens,” he said.

Furthermore, Berisha promised to do everything to discover and utilize Albania’s natural resources, and that the revenues will be used for social policies that will improve citizens’ lives.
