Berisha’s faction holds primaries to elect candidates ahead of by-elections

On Sunday, the members of the Democratic Party in 6 municipalities will vote in the primaries to pick a candidate that will represent the faction led by Sali Berisha ahead of the local by-elections due on March 6.

Voting began at 8 AM in Durres, Vora, Rrogozhina, Shkoder, Diber, and Lushnje and will close at 5 PM.

12 candidates are running in the primaries, but only 6 will make it to the local by-elections.

On Saturday, the committee presented the twelve candidates. Later during the day, the Democratic Party released a statement declaring that it does not recognize the candidates.

In total, there are 654,538 eligible voters at the local by-elections. The Interior Ministry confirmed that 10,134 are first-time voters, while 135 were not included in the list due to the decriminalization law.
