The Court of Tirana has declared on Friday that the National Assembly convened by Sali Berisha on December 11 is legitimate.
The court determined that the amendments to DP’s statute are legitimate.
The legal representative of Berisha’s faction, known as the Refoundation Commission, commended the court’s decision.
“There’s only 1 DP, the one led by the Refoundation Commission”, said Ivi Kaso.
“It [the Court] ruled to return the party to Democrats, to return its headquarters, and banner that were being held hostage”, said Kaso, adding that this is ‘big day for all Democrats’.
According to him, the Central Election Commission (CEC) needs to do the same.
“CEC, or any other organ, must recognize the new banner of the Democratic Party”, he said.
The Democratic Party has been divided into several factions after Lulzim Basha expelled Sali Berisha from the party’s parliamentary group.
However, following Lulzim Basha’s resignation, there have been various efforts to reconcile disgruntled sides.
At the time, the former DP leader dismissed Berisha’s National Assembly as ‘unlawful’.
On Thursday, Berisha, one of the co-founders of the Albanian Democratic Party, said ‘there’s only 1 DP’.
He also reiterated that he is ready to dialogue with every member.
