Boiken Abazi has stepped down from the chairmanship of Vetevendosje in Albania.

In a Facebook status, Abazi informed that he had submitted his irrevocable resignation on September in order to be held accountable for the party’s low score in the parliamentary elections held in April.

Abazi referred to the local polls held on Sunday on Kosovo as victorious for Vetevendosje, which according to him was able to “get the popular vote also” on a municipal level in Kosovo.

“I’ve been wanting to make my decision public but had to wait due to the situation in northern Kosovo and the first round of the local polls. We’re discussing what the next steps in Albania will be”, Abazi wrote.

Boiken Abazi ran as an independent candidate in Tirana but did not receive enough votes to secure a seat in the Albanian parliament.
