Gjirokastra Hospital “Omer Nishani” within the framework of “Pink October” is enabling free mammography for timely diagnosis of breast cancer in women.

There are about 40 visits per day that are carried out in this hospital, among which about 3% are diagnosed with the pathologies of breast diseases.

“For the acceptance of cases, about 40 examinations are being carried out every day, which are almost acceptable, and we have had cases of chest pathologies of 2-3% per day, there have been 1-2 cases which were pathologies, but we are talking until now, which is the beginning of the month, there have been 6-7 cases, which have the projection of chest pathology”, said the specialist doctor, Ermir Mahilaj.

The white shirts require more awareness, mainly in rural areas, for timely diagnosis of breast cancer, which would avoid the serious consequences of this disease.

“We have more sensitivity for the city of Gjirokastra, and meanwhile for the district, this is to be desired mainly from the rural areas, they have difficulties with transportation and other problems, while last year we also had Delvina and Saranda who came and performed examinations in our city”, said doctor Mahilaj.

Throughout the month of October, the health structures in Gjirokastra will continue raising awareness as well as conducting visits and medical tests for the prevention and timely diagnosis of breast pathologies in women.
