Bulgaria will be welcoming the opening of negotiations for Albania’s EU integration. This won’t however, be the case for North Macedonia.
The Bulgarian president informed North Macedonia that it hasn’t delivered on its promise to fulfill the obligations prescribed in the agreement signed by both nations 4 years ago.
The European Council will advise the Bulgarian government to base its arguments against North Macedonia, not on these conditions, but rather on the results that need to be achieved by North Macedonia.
North Macedonia had to change its official name, in order to have Greece lift its veto, but now it is faced with an even more problematic one. Bulgaria is disputing North Macedonia’s language and history.
So far, high officials from the EU have declared that the decoupling of Albania and North Macedonia in the negotiations process is a highly unlikely scenario.
