Analyst Andi Bushati explained his recent clash on social media with the mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj.
In an interview for Euronews Albania, Bushati said that he had supported Veliaj in 2015 when he campaigned with the promise of zero construction in Tirana.
While today, according to him, there are thousands of square meters of construction that have turned Tirana into an unlivable city.
Referring to the post made by Tirana’s mayor on social media, which called him a Bllok boy (Blloku was a neighborhood in Tirana where all the families tied to the communist regime lived), Bushati said that he views it as propaganda and a mere double standard.
“I’m sorry that in Albania, politics is still done by snooping into other people’s biographies. I’m even more sorry that a 40-year-old uses the jargon of an 80-year-old, like Berisha. It is propaganda and a double standard; if he was really affected, he would not sit in a government with the children of the political bureau. If you have this standard, you don’t just apply it to me. Today I replied to Veliaj, once I’ve done the same with Berisha, believing that a person is not judged for the place where he was born, but in whose saddles, he chose to spend his life. If you are among the saddles of Ndrageta and those who launder money with construction, this says a lot about you. So, what matters is who you are, not which maternity hospital you were born in”, said Bushati.
