The lack of a concrete date for the start of negotiations for Albania and North Macedonia, brought to light PM Edi Rama’s disapprovals, reservations and criticism of the European Union.

These were expressed during his speech at today’s EU-Western Balkans Summit in Brdo, Slovenia – the country which currently holds EU’s presidency.

This was the topic put up for discussion during tonight’s political talk show ‘Shock’ airing live on Euronews Albania.

A highlight of the discussion was analyst Andi Bushati’s stance on Rama’s speech at the EU summit, which according to Bushati, “proved that the Albanian PM is definitely against the European Union”.

Bushati said that he found our head of state acting like a sick protagonist, in an effort to appear before the leading personalities of the block, as the unhappy Western Balkans leader.

“To me, this is the most anti-EU speech ever made by Edi Rama. Secondly, it called attention to his sick protagonism – as he tried to appear like the leader of the Western Balkans who’s critical of the EU,” – said Bushati.

In addition, he noted that both Vucic and Zaev have their own reservations about recent developments, but unlike Rama, they chose to not come out so openly against the EU.

In addition, analyst Baton Haxhiu called Rama’s stance ‘brave’ and not necessarily anti-EU.

“He wasn’t against the EU per se, but against leaders in the EU that have made promises they haven’t been able to keep,” – said Haxhiu.

Haxhiu also argued that the prime minister showed an “intellectual courage before the very people, who hold the power of opening up the doors towards EU integration”.
