  • The three new candidates racing to win a seat in the Albanian parliament for the district of Tirana, namely Eljo Hysko from the Socialist Party, Fabian Topollaj from the Democratic Conviction, and Elida Hoxha from the Movement for Change unveiled their vision on Ilva Now.

Elida Hoxha, a professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, said that she sees her involvement in politics as a necessity in contributing to a change that many have been aspiring to, following a long transition period.

“The focus is to get that individual that is disappointed by the long transition and tired by the clashes of the two major political forces. There are many young people who are losing interest in the country”, said Hoxha.

She said that the party has been focused on smaller groups with whom they communicate mainly through social media.

Asked over how many votes she is seeking to get, Hoxha responded: “I have not entered the race holding a pen and paper. The campaign has just begun. We are working with smaller groups to achieve satisfactory results”.

For Fabian Topollaj, candidate of the Democratic Conviction, the main problem rests with the bipolar political system model, which according to him has to be toppled.

“Albania needs to break this monopoly of bipolarity”, Topollaj said.

“To me, the successors of Rama seem even worse than him. One of them was Sajmir Tahiri. The same thing goes to the DP. Berisha had many problems, but Basha is much weaker. The young generation of political parties has spiraled towards degradation because they became servants and copies of their party leaders”, added Topollaj.

Eljo Hysko, the Socialist Party’s candidate, asserts that the new system gives an opportunity to all participants in the electoral race, regardless of their age or ranking.

According to Hysko, who has previously held the top post of SP’s youth forum, these elections are a great chance to address the priorities of the youth in the political discourse.

“At the end of the day, everyone should know why they have gotten into politics”, said Hysko. “10.000 votes are needed. To me ranking is just a number, what matters to me is that we rule the country and of course anyone within the party has his own ambitions”.
