The Commission for Appeals and Sanctions at the Central Election Commission decided to dismiss the request of the Democratic Party to retrieve additional information from state institutions on its claims that the “government used the administration, public sources and connections with crime to meddle with the votes”.

The legal representative of the DP, Ivi Kaso, said in a press conference that CAS rejection is a “violation of electoral standards that go against the interest of the citizens in providing them transparency on what happened at the April 25 elections”.

Kaso insisted that the third decision, “against retrieving additional evidence”, will not stop the DP from seeking to prove their allegations for “electoral massacre” and declaring the “elections invalid in other counties”.

“A double standard was imposed, despite articulating the need to have more evidence for voters that cast their ballot more than one time. Nevertheless, they (CAS) decided against retrieving more evidence from state institutions”, Kaso said.

On the other hand, CAS accepted the request of the Socialist Movement for Integration to have more information on the records of faulty electronic identification devices in Vlora on election day.

Both parties have appealed for the nullification of the election result in Vlora.

CAS also postponed the verdict for the county of Gjirokastra to Wednesday at 9 AM.

On Monday, CAS reopened 24 boxes containing electoral material from the county of Berat noting that in at least 7 of them there was missing documentation, such as electronic identification reports and voter records.

The Commission decided to reopen the sealed material on May 15 following claims from the SMI and DP.
