After PM Rama’s recent statements on police structuring, the Head of State Police, Ardi Veliu, has given an ultimatum to the executive directors of all commissariats to raise the level of public safety. Veliu gathered commissariat chiefs at the General Police Directory in Tirana, where he announced guidelines for the near future and criticized their performance.
“Like the directors of police departments in counties, the chiefs of commissariats also have 100 days, to convince us with their performance and to restore law and order nationwide,” declared Veliu.
According to our sources, for around 90 minutes, Veliu criticized his subordinates, in continuation to the prime minister’s rhetoric the previous day.
During the meeting, the head of the State Police also made an announcement about the dismissal of the Chief of Saranda’s Commissariat, Syrja Bello, who will be replaced by Klodian Kondi, and who has earlier served in the sector of Serious Crimes at Tirana’s Police Department.
This move was also made after the request of the head of state, which comes after the armed face-off in one of the city’s nightclubs on June 20th.
Even though the event was serious and resulted in two citizens being injured, – namely the bar owner and an unrelated visitor, who was at the scene coincidentally, – the case hasn’t gone through an adequate investigation and detailed analysis by the local police forces.
