It’s been a month since Tirana’s City Hall announced a formal daytime ban on all heavy-duty trucks in order to reduce their impact on the city’s chronic traffic problem. However, little has changed as companies continue to work around the clock, showing complete disregard for this regulation.
According to the new regulation, concrete mixers and heavy tankers are banned from operating anywhere in the area encompassed by the Small and Medium Rings, starting from 07:00-20:00. But what is actually happening during this timeframe?
Euronews Albania has collected footage, which shows a heavy-duty truck getting out of a construction site close to the ‘Air Albania’ stadium, which is located only meters away from the city’s main boulevard.
The driver went by his day completely unphased and not once did he look over his shoulder to check if a police patrol could pull him over for breaking the law.
In another area close to downtown Tirana, our cameras caught another concrete mixer moving around freely in the middle of the day at Jordan Misja street.
Similar sights can be witnessed all over the city, by citizens who have reported their concerns at our newsroom, accompanied by photos and videos recorded on their phones.
The City’s decision to ban all heavy-duty trucks during the daytime was promoted as a ‘necessary evil’, which would alleviate Tirana’s congested traffic but so far, nothing has really changed and no fines or penalties have been issued.
