In an interview for Balkan Talks on Euronews Albania, analysts from North Macedonia Nazim Rashiti and Sefer Salimi noted that the electoral race has been peaceful, unlike previous polls.
“There is no tension in the interethnic narratives either, not even in the sense on how campaigns are conducted, including banal problems like wrecking election premises, or aggressive threats,” said Rashiti.
According to Rushiti, the campaign has been mainly about what candidates are bringing to the table, recalling that election promises might have gone a bit too far.
He also notes that preliminary polls point to a narrow result.
“It is a fact that we have a fragile majority, with only one MP more, and this makes Zaev’s government frail”, Selimi said.
From the perspective of Rashiti, North Macedonia has not completely detached from ethnic divisions, adding that a “Macedonian supremacy” is currently prevailing, in cases when are no direct interethnic disputes.
