Analysts Andi Bushati and Baton Haxhiu spoke over the stance of President Ilir Meta on the Constitutional Court’s verdict on local elections held on 30 June 2019.
Bushati claims that Albania is in the midst of an “institutional conflict” as six municipalities have no mayor.
He emphasized that the court failed to “address a constitutional dispute” while putting the blame on the justice reform.
“Citizens of 6 municipalities will not have a mayor just because the “American-European court” has dodged taking a decision”, he said.
Haxhiu compared it with Kosovo’s Constitutional Court claiming that the former is “not only the best in the region but in Europe” for having “toppled three presidents”.
According to Haxhiu, Meta’s stance is entirely “political” adding that the President is actually helping Sali Berisha by not decreeing partial election in 6 municipalities.
