On Monday, November 11, six judges of the immigration section of the Rome court will decide on the legality of the detention orders of the seven immigrants who have been sent to the reception center in Shengjin.

This review follows an earlier court decision that canceled the detention of 12 immigrants in camps built in Albania.

After the court’s decision, the immigrants were transferred to a reception center in Bari, based on European law. Following this decision, the Italian government issued a legal decree revising the list of countries considered safe for repatriation.

Just two days ago, seven new asylum seekers, three from Egypt and five from Bangladesh, were transferred to Albania within an accelerated procedure. One of them returned to Italy due to health problems found after the medical examination.

The Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, strongly supports the operation and has stated that the Italian government will appeal the court’s decisions. “We are convinced that everything is in accordance with European law,” said Piantedosi.

There is also a parliamentary delegation from the Democratic Party and the 5 Star Movement, as well as representatives of the Associations of the Asylum and Immigration Table. They are monitoring the conditions of the centers, including living spaces and toilets, to ensure compliance with legal and international procedures. Representatives of the delegation have described the center as an “open-air prison,” expressing deep concerns about the conditions of immigrants.
