Zheni Gjergji, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party, said that the Socialist government failed to provide what it had promised, free health care, conversely, citizens paid even more than before.

“Free healthcare was no achievement as during these years Albanians had to pay 20% more for services. The figures that come out of the Albanian people’s pockets to get health services indicate that the scheme did not work as it should have”, said Gjergji.

The opposition MP recalled that the government allocated 91 billion Albanian Lek for the 2022 budget.

Asserting that the budget is larger compared to previous years, Gjergji noted that it’s not enough to overcome “the grave state in which the health system is today”.

She insisted that concessionaries in the sector are costlier, and the burden should not fall on citizens but must be covered by the state budget.
