The Democratic Party called on the Central Election Commission to not register Tom Doshi in the April 25 elections.
DP stressed that Doshi is a subject of the decriminalization law and cannot participate in the elections.
“Under the framework of the decriminalization law, Article 2, Tom Doshi is not allowed as a candidate, because he has an expulsion from the United States. The US Secretary of State’s order has banned him from entering US soil, constituting a legal reason for banning Tom Doshi from the April 25 elections”, said the DP in its statement.
The Democrats urged CEC to implement the law and take this decision and putting the interests of the people first.
Political subjects have submitted their list of candidates ahead of the March 8 deadline.
After the submission of the lists, CEC has 48 hours to make the preliminary verifications and check whether all criteria have been fulfilled.
In case of irregularities, political parties will have 48 hours at their disposal to make the necessary amends.
