In response to the Democratic Party’s request to extend the registration deadline for diaspora voters, Election Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi has referred to the deadlines set by the Electoral Code, emphasizing that this process cannot be extended beyond March 9.

“March 9 is a deadline that cannot be exceeded, as it is established by law. On this date, the CEC is obliged to publish the preliminary list,” Celibashi stated.

According to Celibashi, an extension can only be considered for those applicants who have submitted multiple requests but had their registration denied.

“At least for the 42,056 voters who, as of now, have submitted their request and had it rejected, the possibility should be reviewed for the CEC to have a few extra days to assist them in the reapplication process,” the CEC chief explained.

Celibashi also noted that international postal services will be considered for delivering voting envelopes to the diaspora.
